China's Deepest Diving Sub Will be Getting New Eyes
Believe it or not, we're still on a quest to look for creatures of the deep. That's why, China's deep-diving Jiaolong submersible will be getting some new 3D cameras to spot undocumented species in even pitch black waters.
The cameras were devised by a team from the Second Institute of Oceanography in Hangzhou. It snaps a series of three-dimensional images to build up a composite image of sea creatures. The system utilizes two separately mounted lenses to provide the stereoscopic perspective. This will allow researchers to accurately measure the dimensions of sea life without having to collect samples.
Will we eventually be able to uncover the deep dark mysteries from the bottom of the ocean? Will we find if the Kaiju are from there? [South China Morning Post]
