What a way to start the new year. A website appears to leak user names and phone number information for some 4.6 million Snapchat accounts!

The leaked user info from SnapchatDB matches phone numbers to user names. A group of researchers last week publicized how easy it would be to acquire data like this from Snapchat. Looks like this happened sooner than later. The last two digits of phone numbers have been blurred out to "minimize abuse".

The security hole that allowed the breach has since been patched. According to SnapchatDB:
This information was acquired through the recently patched Snapchat exploit and is being shared with the public to raise awareness on the issue. The company was too reluctant at patching the exploit until they knew it was too late and companies that we trust with our information should be more careful when dealing with it.

Will Smidlein and Robbie Trencheny have created a tool that helps Snapchat users check if their accounts were compromised using the "GS Lookup - Snapchat" on Wednesday to "help the public quickly understand if they were affected so that they could take the appropriate actions."
