Based on the non-fiction book, The Monuments Men is a 2014 American-German war film directed, co-written, co-produced and starring George Clooney. It's a slow but gripping true story about a ragtag platoon out on a different kind of treasure hunt, one that involves saving pieces of art and other culturally important items from being destroyed by Hitler during World War II.

Unlike most war movies, The Monuments Men avoids getting too caught up in all the gruesome horrors of war. What you can expect is an intriguing story about how a bunch of curators and professors managed to outsmart one of history's most infamous dictators, saving countless pieces of priceless art in the process.

Besides Clooney (and his questionable mustache), the film also stars the likes of Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville, and Cate Blanchett. With so many power players thrown in the mix, it can be challenging at times to keep up with the individual story-lines. If anything, the real star in this film would have to be the art itself.

If you love all things history and art related, then movie’s subject will definitely keep you in your seat.
