It's been a seven-year long wait for this sequel, so you can only imagine how high the bar has been set.

This latest chapter of the epic saga takes the battlefield from land to the open seas, focusing on the naval Battle of Salamis (480BC). Greek general Themistokles (Sullivan Stapleton) must attempt to unite all of Greece while facing the massive invading Persian forces led by the 'God King' Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his vengeful navy commander Artemesia (Eva Green).

Xerxes might seem like a formidable foe, but it is Eva's villainous character who really shines in this film. While Xerxes battles things out with King Leonidas on land, it is Artemisia who leads Persia’s charge against Greece by sea. Her dark past and thirst for vengeance truly makes her a ferocious femme fatale.

Based on Frank Miller’s graphic novel “Xerxes”, the sequel still follows the breathtaking visual style of the blockbuster 300, but with less over-the-top scenarios and just a smidgen more of substance. There's still plenty of guts, gore and sculpted torsos to be had, so fans will certainly not be disappointed.

300: Rise of an Empire releases March 6, 2014.
