PBS just got a look inside Tempelhof Airport, Berlin, and in the video we get to see an incredible amount of history. Did you know the airport was built on the grounds of a medieval Knights of Templar meeting space? And that the Wright brothers demonstrated their Flier here?

The Nazis later expanded the airport in the late 1930s to give it the unique sweeping arc plan. But it was not finished when the city was captured by the Soviet army.

The Alies used Tempelhof to stage one of the most remarkable operations of all time in 1948; The Berline Air Lift. Templehof enjoyed a long life as a commercial airport until it finally closed in 2007 after decades of decline.
