Getting a close up view of the inside and outside the human eye require heavy, big, expensive and rarely accessible equipment, especially in third world countries. Here's how it's getting easier. Researchers at Stanford University have created a simple iPhone add-on to let anyone perform eye exams, anywhere.

Created by assistant professor Dr. Robert Chang and a resident named Dr. David Myung, the EyeGo was originally prototyped using components that are readily available online. But instead, it will be scanned so that it can be 3D printed by anyone wanting one.

The EyeGo uses two adapters to allow the device's camera to take close up photos of the outside of the eye. The add-on, can be carried in a doctor's bag and all is needed is a smartphone and someone with experience to analyze the images it snaps.
