Of the 298 people killed on flight MH17, 193 were from Netherlands. Most of them were attending an HIV/AIDS conference in Melbourne. It included notable researchers in the field of the disease.

“Since Thursday, I’ve been thinking how horrible it must have been, the final moments of their lives, when they know the plane was going down,” Dutch Foreign Minister Frans Timmermans told a U.N. Security Council meeting Monday.

“Did they lock hands with their loves ones? Did they hold their children close to their hearts? Did they look each other in the eyes one final time in a wordless goodbye? We will never know.”

“For the Netherlands one priority clearly stands out above all others: bring the victims’ remains home.”
