Some people grow up in a completely English speaking environment. That becomes somewhat of a slight problem when you live in a multi-cultural society. Not everyone speaks it or is good at it. Here are all the problems the 'Banana' generation will understand.

1. When ordering, you point or say silly things.

You can't form a structurally correct sentence in another language so everything sounds like dog shit.

2. When going places, you point.

The finger is your best friend in these cases.

3. You keep thinking there's a chance people might understand what you are saying.

So you speak slower, and sometimes condescendingly ask if they understand you.

4. Over and over again.

Sometimes you come off a little rude. Don't judge others for not speaking the same language!

5. You pretend to nod like you understand what people are saying.

You caught a word or two, but you didn't understand the whole sentence.

6. And you keep asking people what some words mean

If you are eager to learn, you'll keep asking the meaning of words.

7. But it annoys people that they have to keep telling you

So remember!

8. You have friends that speak primarily in another language / dialect

Not everyone is a banana.

9. And even if you do know how to speak it, you suck at it

banana9.gif

You don't need a reminder on that, but yeah, you suck so bad.

10. Your pronunciation is all over the place

banana15.gif

It is sometimes too cute.

11. People might not be able to stand hearing you speak in another language.

Language is like music. And if it is not nearly-correct, it may sound pretty horrible to say the least.

12. They will try to correct and help you with your pronunciation.

English speakers are the worst and most judgey ones. People who speak other languages on the other hand are more helpful.

13. You might feel ashamed because you can't converse in it.

banana22.gif

It sucks when everyone is having so much fun and laughter in another language and you're on the outside, forcing a laugh as if you get their jokes.

14. People will politely ask you to revert to English instead of that other language

banana14.gif

Why won't they let me try??

15. Even if they know you speak it, and they've heard you before, they'll speak to you in English

banana26.gif

It is better this way..

16. The saddest part: conversations tend to end faster this way

If only we spoke the same language.

Hang in there. Language or dialect isn't that hard to pick up. So I've been told. Make it a point to learn at least one.
