The space race is not over just yet. Already there are talks of going to Mars and setting up a colony there. The privately funded Mars One mission aims to have mankind permanent set up a space colony ten years from now in 2025.

Bars Lansdorp thought up the Mars One Mission. It looked at over 200,000 applicants from around the world to get on a one-way trip to Mars where groups of four astronauts are sent every two years.

In Asia alone, there are 16 possible candidates, and one of them is Maggie Lieu from the United Kingdom.

It goes without saying that those Mars babies could be quite cute:

Maggie was shortlisted to the final 100 candidates and will go through the training portion of the selection process to see if she can adapt to the rigors of space.

Maggie is currently a student at Birmingham University studying for her PhD in astrophysics and has made headlines when she stated her desire to give birth to the first child on Mars.

“I think it would be really exciting to have a child because it would be the first real Martian. I don’t know what race or nationality it would be because there are no countries on Mars – yet.”

Will Maggie make it to the final shortlist? What do you think? Check out a video of her:
