This sounds like a horror story that you shouldn't believe, but it's a story you shouldn't take for granted. Janese Walters is a victim of a rare disease known as 'cat scratch.' It's what happens when cats pass on a bacteria in their saliva and fur to you.

She woke up one day having lost the sight in her left eye, and after a month of trying to figure out what happened, it turns out, she had a pet cat, and that it licked her, and then she rubbed her eye.

This is what the doctor said:

Dr. Kris Brickman said that only 40% of cats carry that bacteria, which is harmful to humans but not the cats themselves.

“It can affect the eyes, because what it does is increases blood vessels that creates problems — called antinomies… It can also cause some liver problems and can get into the spinal fluids and create meningitis.”

Now, Walters is hoping her story will act as a reminder to all to wash their hands after patting their dog or cat.
