Google has a new carpooling pilot program which they launched in Israel today by online mapping company Waze. Dubbed RideWith, it will allow people to share rides to and from work for a small fee. According to Waze:

We’re conducting a small, private beta test in the greater Tel Aviv area for a carpool concept, but we have nothing further to announce at this time.

If so, this could be in direct competition with Uber and Lyft. For now, there's no set date for launch elsewhere.

Uber currently uses Google's mapping functions, and that allows Google to see raw data about which cities are the most popular for ridesharing, making it easier for them to enter the market.
