The internet seems to be constantly challenging itself to come up with viral trends that often are stupid. The latest one is something called “Extreme Phone Pinching” and it involves a person clinging the corner of their phone only with the thumb and index finger and holding it at extreme altitudes like over a cliff or river.

Naturally, the trend has infected many parts of the world and recently Malaysia. Yesterday, a video circulating on Facebook showed our very own pioneer in the country taking up the challenge in Berjaya Times Square.

The guy appears to have lost a bet and is dared to pinch his own phone over a moving escalator heading towards Ground Floor somewhere near Starbucks and U Mobile while his cameraman friend taunts him at the side. He seemed obviously reluctant to hold out his smartphone (duh, that thing’s expensive) but conformed uncontrollable hand gestures to the camera.

Because who isn’t nerve wrecked to suspend their own precious mobile gadget at such distressful heights?! #kanchiongmax

And just when you think things should be looking ugly enough at this point, they’re not. What happens next to these guys totally brought stupidity to a whole new level because......

He. Dropped. The. Phone.

Even worse. He dropped it AFTER he’s successfully done the stunt.

Bye Bye Phone. May you rest in pieces peace.

Watch the entire video here to hear the loud, brutal THUD as the phone knocks onto the escalator step. Sounds exactly like his heart breaking. (PS: The posttraumatic “sorry bro” blurted out by his friend in the end is totally worth the watch.)

Guess it’s time for a new phone, bro?
