If you're a grown working man, you gotta stop depending on your mom or girlfriend to get your meals done for you. Besides, men who cook can be rather desirable, so why not learn a few recipes?

You're not going to cook a gourmet meal when you first start, and nobody will expect you to. But learning a few basic recipes will not only come in handy when you don't feel like eating out, it'll make you look way more independent.

Here's what an adult man should know how to cook:

1. Steak

Steak recipes are easy. All you need is olive oil, salt, pepper, and perhaps some butter. Of course, you'll need a pan and a stove too. We found that the easiest way to learn how to cook a steak is to watch and learn:

2. Pasta

There are a few types of pasta and sauces you could learn to cook, but here's a standard Bolognese sauce that is super easy to make:

3. Make scrambled eggs

If you can't make scrambled eggs, shame on you! But if you didn't know there was more than one way to cook scrambled eggs, you're forgiven. We've decided to include this Jamie Oliver tutorial that shows you three ways to make scrambled eggs - English, French, or American style. Take your pick:

4. Toast

This is the simplest thing to do at home. If you can't make toast, you need to find a job that pays shitloads more than what you earn now, because you will need to hire someone to make your toast for you. Or you could get to it right now:

5. French toast

French toast is a great way to impress anyone at breakfast. It's so easy to make, but when paired with whipped cream, berries and maple syrup, it can look beautiful.

6. Ham & Cheese sandwich

This one doesn't require any cooking. It's also the easiest thing to make when you're hungry and lazy. Of course, you'll need some bread, ham, mayonnaise, some lettuce (if you like some crunch to it), and cheese (or not). Because it's so easy to make, we're showing you a tutorial that kicks it up a notch: grill it!

7. Make a burger

Making your own burger patty can take time, so if you want a quick fix, get the patties at the supermarket so you can just fry one up whenever you feel like it. Here's a great tip from Daniel Bouloud:

8. Grilled chicken wings

Chicken wings are fantastic for barbecues parties, dinners, or as a snack. The most important part of this is the marinade. Here's one from AllRecipes:

Ingredients:
5 tablespoons soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons dry sherry
1 teaspoon prepared yellow mustard
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
24 chicken wings

Directions:

1. Whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, sherry, mustard, and garlic powder in a bowl. Arrange the chicken wings in a 9x13-inch baking dish, and pour marinade over the chicken. Cover the baking dish with plastic wrap, and marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.

2. Preheat an oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Remove the plastic wrap from the baking dish.

3. Bake in the preheated oven until the chicken wings are no longer pink in the center, about 1 hour, basting occasionally.

9. Fried rice

Leftover rice can only mean one thing: Fried rice day! It's easy to make, and you don't have to eat your rice or leftovers the same way - just add them up and make fried rice!

11. No-bake cheesecake

If you can make a dessert, your points as a single male cooking for friends or a date will skyrocket (if you make it right, of course). Let's start with a no-bake cheesecake:

12. Instant noodles

instantnoodletricks.jpg

You probably know how to cook instant noodles already, and chances are they're just alright to fill your hunger. Why not amp up your instant noodle meals with other ingredients such as:

1. Eggs
2. Thinly-sliced meat (you can find them in meat sections of supermarkets)
3. Fishballs and meatballs
4. Lettuce, carrots, onions, and chillies
5. Seafood

Tip: For meats and vegetables, boil it with the broth before you start to cook the noodles and eggs. The noodles, seafood, and eggs cook a lot quicker so you'll want to add it to the mix only toward the end of your cooking.
