When you move into a new home, it can be one of the busiest times of your life. Unless you are based in the military, then you can see why we don’t move house too often. There is a lot to organise, as well as settling into a new home. But needs must and we do need to move home from time to time. It might be that you just need a larger home for a growing family.

It could be that you need to move locations for work. Whatever the reason, there are a few things that you need to look out for when you are choosing a new home. If you don’t pay attention to a few small things, it can cause a little bit of a hassle. So if you are in the market for a new home, make a note of the following.

Electricity Plugs

This won’t be one of the first things on your list when looking around a house. But if you have decided on a house you’d like to have a second look at, paying attention to the electric outlets is important. First of all, you need to check the style of them. If they are an old style of outlet or plug, you could need to have the whole house rewired. It isn’t the end of the world. It just means that you should take it into account when thinking about an offer price. You should also look for the number of outlets that there are dotted around the walls. Again, it isn’t a massive thing, but it will mean that some areas of the wall might need to be replastered. So just bear it in mind when you think of moving in and a timeline for that. It is a consideration for what you will offer them, too.

Asbestos

Nowadays, asbestos isn’t too much of a problem. In older homes, though, there may still be issues with it. It could be in a garage roof or in a chimney flue. So if the home is a bit older, it is worth checking if there are any asbestos panels, before you sign on the dotted line. Asbestos is fairly straightforward to remove, though. There are a lot of companies that are known for removing the asbestos from homes & businesses. So it isn’t something that will cause a lot of issues. It is just something to think about before moving in.

Lighting

It might sound fairly obvious, but one of the only things you can’t change about a house is it’s location. So for a second or third viewing, it might be a good idea to view the house at different times of the day. Where does the light come through? Which rooms get the best light? Does the garden get a lot of sunshine throughout the day? They are all little things that you should think about. If you are a keen gardener and the garden doesn’t get much daylight, you might want to reconsider.
