Travel and make money: advice for beginners
2017.10.20
You can travel and make money at the same time if you know how.
Who doesn’t dream about traveling? But sometimes it seems like you can travel only if you have a lot of free time and proper financial backing. And while finding some free time is not always a problem (you can quit your job or use your summer break from studying or take an academic leave), finding money for your trips is an issue that has to be properly addressed.
Here is some advice that may help you to be financially confident, wherever you go.
Going from planning to organization
The most common way to make sure your traveling will be properly financed is putting some money aside till you collect the amount you need. Do you plan a long journey? Find a job with stable income that will allow you to save up.
As a student, you can find a freelancing job in whatever area you are good at. For example, if you have always been good at paper writing, you can try earning by custom essay writing. The main thing is to work properly and be able to save up. For this, set up a schedule. Think of how much money exactly you’ll need and how much time it will take to get it.
When you go traveling, take as much of your savings as you can. It doesn’t mean that you’ll have to toss all your hard-earned money to the wind, but it’s important to have access to your funds (preferably, online access).
But while making savings is the most popular way of paying for traveling, there are many ways to earn money while you travel.
Freelancing
The most common and successful way of earning money while traveling is freelancing, to be more specific, freelance writing.
Internet offer a variety of marketplaces that will allow you working from any place you want - just create an account and start working. It’s great if your writing skills allow you being a great freelance writer, but if you aren’t sure about this, try freelance writing a couple of months before you go traveling to get some experience.
Another type of freelancing that may turn out to be some sort of business of your own is blogging. However, keep it in mind that you’ll have to take care about your blog promotion beforehand as well. And make sure you improve writing skills enough for this type of activity.
Teaching
If you don’t like the idea of sitting at your computer for hours, there are other options. With advanced foreign language proficiency, you can work as a teacher. Of course, this means you will have to stay in one place for a while and look for clients, but there is also an option of teaching someone via Skype.
In case you don’t think your foreign language knowledge is sufficient for being a teacher, you can put your other talents to use, like drawing or playing musical instruments. You can even start teaching custom essay writing – if that’s what you prefer, of course.
Hotels and hostels
There is a possibility to improve your foreign language speaking skills, meet new people and earn money at the same time. Working in hotels and hostels allows all of the above.
All you need is to speak a foreign language on a level sufficient to support a conversation and to be a responsible person. You can find this kind of job by contacting hotels or hostels directly, looking for job offers online or by asking your friends and acquaintances – maybe some of them know some hostel owners who could use your help.
Take photos and make videos
Creative distance jobs – photography and video editing. It’s so much easier to find and capture interesting awesome moments when you are traveling. You can sell your photo- or video works right away, via Internet.
There are web resources intended exactly for that purpose – photo stocks. Just Google them; you’ll find plenty. This is where you can sell your original photos. Prices may vary, depending on the website and on your photos quality. Do some market research before you try selling your photos online.
Long-term jobs
Earning money while traveling by getting a long-term job is a great option if you plan to explore one country during a long period of time. For example, you can find a job in US for half a year and be able to travel from state to state, then find the same type of job in Brazil and travel over the country again.
Lack of money for traveling is an issue that is not that hard to solve. The main thing is that you have a plan and sufficient motivation and resolution to bring it to life.
