Sweden has an interesting problem pretty much no one has. It has too many prisons, and not enough prisoners, so much that they recently decided to shut four prions and a remand center.

While the crime rate has increased in Sweden, there is a strong emphasis on rehabilitating criminals instead of locking them up. The prison population declined 6 percent between 2011 and 2012.

A vast majority of stays are less than 12 months, and prisoners get better treatment - more privacy and freedom. Definitely not like the kind you see on TV. [The Guardian]
