This wheelchair looks like it was made for Professor X. The original WHILL was a clamp on device. It was designed to help power manual wheelchairs that did not have an electric motor. And while it never saw the light of day, the concept behind it have repurposed to the Whill Type-A electric wheelchair that's now up for pre-order with an expected delivery for next year.

The raised arms will provide a set of controls to steer and drive the wheelchair. It can be operated with one hand and to make it easy to get in and out of the seat, it can automatically slide forward and back for improved access.

Four wheel drive ensures the chair can traverse most urban terrains and a clever segmented design on the front wheels lets them roll back and forward and side to side without pivoting.

The Type-A is ready for pre-order, though pricing details have yet to be released. [Whill via Gizmag]
