Everyone knows the feeling of being scared out of their wits. Nobody really likes the feeling, but you can't deny the rush it gives. This is because your brain takes fear as a cue to start shooting off neurotransmitters.

Bytesize Science explains that there are actually a few different chemicals at play when your brain is gearing into "HOLY SHIT" mode.

Indeed, there's the trusty adrenaline present, but cortisol and glucose play a huge role too, priming both your brain and body to avoid the freaky situation.

Knowing all this won't help you stop it to face terrifying situations, but it'll give you something to think about when you try and calm yourself down.
