Suffering from a hangover? You'll want to drink some Sprite.

Researchers at Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou, China, looked into hangovers and found that Sprite may just be the solution for it. Alcohol's effect on the body is well known but now well understood. We know it makes us do stupid things but we don't know why, and we don't have a clear understanding of how the body metabolizes all the different chemicals in a drink. These researchers specifically looked into the way ethanol is metabolized.

Ethanol is processed into acetaldehyde, an enzyme that handles metabolization called alcohol dehydrogenase, or ADH. It metabolizes further into acetate, and the enzyme that handles that process is called aldehyde dehydrogenase.

Acetaldehyde, on the other hand, is a menace and is responsible for what we know as a hangover. To minimize the amount of time acetaldehyde was in the body, scientists looked to boost the body's store of ADH.

Sprite was found to have the boosting qualities of the ADH enzyme and making the conversion of acetaldehyde into acetate even faster.

The researchers say their next step is to try it in a real living organism to see if the results hold true.

Still, it won't hurt if you pop open a bottle after a hard nigh out.
