In the future, all cars on the road will talk to each other. But until then, we'll still have to figure a good way to do it. The U.S. Department of Transportation wants to do just that so cars never crash into one another with its vehicle-to-vehicle communication technology.

The process is already underway. In August 2012, the DOT launched the Safety Pilot "model deployment" in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where some 3,000 vehicles were equipped with V2V communication technology. The technology has the potential to be the ultimate game changer in roadway safety. Once they understand how to apply it, it could be an effective way that will benefit the whole world.
