Facebook will start testing a new mobile feature that plays videos automatically as users scroll through their News Feeds. The videos will play as they come into view on the screen and users can preview them without clicking or opening them.

The videos will play silently and can be viewed with sound upon clicking. It will first be rolled out at a small group of random users and the videos will play automatically if they are uploaded directly to Facebook and not embedded from other places like YouTube.

The autoplay will apply to videos uploaded by individuals, bands and musicians, which means no annoying brand pages will be using it for promotional videos. At least, not yet.
