A team of scientists from Singapore's Agency for Science, Technology and Research say they can harvest enough electricity from low frequency vibrations to power small electronic devices.

Accumulating electric charge in response to mechanical stress is known as piezoelectricity. Using vibrations to make electricity is not a new idea, but it is a step forward. Scientists believe that the bigger the device, the more electricity can be harvested and could also only use one frequency.

The new approach can use a wide range of frequencies and works in tiny devices, like wireless sensors.
