If your car breaks down while you are driving, it’s not only distressing, but also inconvenient. What’s worse is if you don’t have the necessary emergency contacts to ease your situation. When that happens, you’ll have to remember a few key tips.

1.    Don’t panic. Try to coast along the shoulder of the road until you’re away from any curves in the road behind you. The placement of your car will make it easier for you to get back onto the road and also spot any oncoming traffic on your tail.

2.    If your engine dies on the highway, and you can’t get to the side of the road in time, don’t get out of the car immediately. Stay calm and turn on your hazard lights to make your car visible before getting out.

Once you’re finally out of harm’s way, it’s time to call for some help. It’s always important to arm yourself with a reliable backup plan in case anything goes wrong – especially if you don’t have a driving companion or if you’re a frequent interstate traveler.

KAA…your trusted companion on the road

KAA is a program that offers comprehensive roadside assistance for situations like these. It has a Hotline – 1800-88-3833, that got you covered.

Scenario 1 - Your car breaks down and you’re stuck on a highway.
Roadside assistance from KAA features vehicle breakdown and towing services. They can also help with minor repairs on the spot, if possible.

Here are some of the essential information you need to know that’s offered by Kurnia’s vehicle insurance policy:

1.    On top of the negotiated and agreed repair services, changing flat tyres, replacing the battery and jump-start services will be provided without additional charges.
2.    Towing rates are based on time and distance of the service. Assistance within 50km of the service provider’s workshop to where your car breaks down is completely free (30km for Sabah and Sarawak). Beyond 50km will cost you RM2 per kilometre (beyond 30km for Sabah and Sarawak).
3.    KAA towing service charges:

Now that you’ve called for help and know what your options are, set up your emergency triangles if you have them. Never attempt to fix your car by yourself.

Scenario 2 - Your car battery is dead now. What do you do?
While most insurance policies cover battery replacement, Kurnia’s battery replacement service is available within Klang Valley at any time of the day.

Policyholders get a special discounted rate for the battery, while delivery and installation is free of charge!

Scenario 3 - You got into an accident
Make sure that you’re not hurt or in need of urgent medical attention before you call for vehicle assistance.

If everything is A-ok, call the KAA Hotline, 1800-88-3833 and wait for the response team to arrive at the scene.

KAA gives you free towing services as part of the claim procedures or during vehicle breakdown. The service provider will assist and advise in expediting the claim process as per Kurnia’s guidelines.

Scenario 4 - Know your insurance policy’s terms and conditions:
Even if help is on the way, you should consider the terms and conditions stated in your policy. Find out more here.

Scenario 5 - I don’t know where I am now
You can download the Kurnia One Touch free mobile app, and with a simple tap on the SOS button, the map will display your current location through the GPS function. Our Kurnia Auto Assist team will be in touch with you and reach your location the soonest possible to provide road assistance.

KAA service is further enhanced in with the deployment of ‘KAA Riders’ on motorcycles. These riders will arrive at the breakdown scene within 15-30 minutes in the Klang Valley, Penang, Butterworth, Johor Jaya, Johor Bahru, and Seremban to carry out repairs if possible. Otherwise, alternative arrangements will be made through the KAA call centre. For more information, visit the website or call their Hotline at 1-800-88-3833.
