When did DIY become so trendy? The results of a new survey has found that more women are eagerly fixing things around the house by themselves without having to wait around for a man to get it done.

The survey involved questioning 1,244 British women about their DIY habits. An estimated 60 per cent said they are now more likely to carry out home improvements than their partners; while half considered themselves even more capable than their male counterparts.

So why are women taking a bigger role in home improvement projects? Four in ten said they wanted wanted to stop asking their brothers, fathers and male friends for assistance; while 10 per cent said they took up DIY to increase the value of their home after being inspired by TV home improvement programmes. Here's hoping that this survey inspires more women out there to feel confident about their own DIY capabilities.
