Certain foods taste great together. And if you're wondering why, wonder no more. Here's a visualization from Scientific American that shows how they are linked and explains why some combinations work so well with some.

Each blue dot is a food that sits in one of 14 category columns - herb, meat, cereal and so on. The size of the dot represents how common the food is and the lines link foods which share one or the more flavor related chemical compound. The thicker the line, the more shared compounds.
