What do you do to inspire your child to do their homework? Build the desk of their dreams of course!

Jeff Highsmith of MAKE recently created this elaborate mission control desk, inspired by the NASA Apollo Program, for his son. The desk has a plain top surface for homework, but when the work's done and it's time for play, the desk opens to reveal illuminated push buttons, dials, and digital readouts. There's even a slot to store an iPad!

Highsmith even went as far as to wire the desk up so that the buttons trigger sounds, lights and other actions. Now every kid will wish their dad could build them a functioning play+homework desk with his bare hands!
