Appearances online can be deceiving. Pictures can be deceiving. But that did not stop one man from spending thousands of dollars to meet the woman he found online. Except, when she met him in real-life, she did not look anything like the pictures he'd seen.

Huang, a Chinese man from Harbin spent thousands to meet Xiojin, a woman from Suzhou. This is her:

Geographically, the two were as far apart as you can imagine: some 2,270 km apart! Then he saw her in real life. She didn't look anything like what he saw.

Huang was devastated because she had a "rounder face" and was "more tan" than he expected. He told her: “You can’t be Xiaojin, right? You look too different.” She claimed: “It’s me. I just edited the photo and wore makeup. This is what I look like normally.” The two of them continued arguing about her “lying” about her appearance, and eventually Huang became so upset he apparently assaulted Xiaojin.
