Audi Is Changing The Turn Signal
2013.08.18
Audi will be introducing it's latest A8 and S8 sedans at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month. And they'll also be dropping some details about some new technology that will feature on cars.
Audi has confirmed that the new A8 range will feature Matrix LED headlight technology. The tech allows the car's high beam to be left permanently on without blinding other drivers.
They've also showed off a new sequential turn signal where it is made up of individual LEDs that will illuminate in a define sequence in the direction the driver wishes to take.
Audi says the new turn signal can be clearly and quickly perceived, even at long distances and in poor visibility.
In it will be 18 individual LEDs arranged in a strip, and is subdivided into seven blocks. In the tail lights, there will be 24 LEDs in eight segments.
When they start flashing, blocks are sequentially activated at 20 millisecond intervals from inside outwards in the desired turning direction. After 150 milliseconds, all segments are bright and for another 250 milliseconds they will remain bright with full intensity.
