Augmented Reality System Lets Drivers See Thru Vehicles In Front of Them [VIDEO]
2013.10.25
The "See-Through" augmented reality assist system developed by a team from the University of Porto in Portugal allows a driver to see what's in front of the vehicle in front.
It relies on an a transparent LCD panel that covers the driver’s view of the windscreen and makes itself useful by playing images from a forward-facing camera mounted on the vehicle that makes overtaking perilous.
The software will automatically detect when a driver's view is impaired and the pop-up shows a live feed from the leading vehicle.
The image is transmitted to the in-car screen with a 200 millisecond delay, so for now the system probably won't be that viable just yet. The lag has to be shorter if not non-existent.
