According to a BMW inside source, the automaker has given the green light for the production of the i8 Spyder with an introduction date set for 2015.

The crew over at Bimmerpost also added that "the approval came last Friday and a production intent model was shown internally at BMW".

The automaker showed interest in expanding the i8 lineup with the release of the i8 Spyder Concept at last year's China Auto Show in Beijing.

The i8 Coupe, ready next year, has already been sold out. Will the i8 Spyder get such a reception too?
