This is London's Highway for Bikes
2014.01.02
This is the SkyCycle plan. It is a bizarre concept that uses the empty channels above some train lines to build floating, bike-only cycle superhighways.
If it gets approved and built, it would create a 136 mile network of elevated cycle routes spanning the city of London. It would begin with a first phase linking east London to Liverpool Street Station.
Unfortunately, the cost for this is north of $300m, but seeing this should be a government project, it should be chump change. Hopefully it gets a go-ahead. The network should take 20 years to complete, of which by that time we may even have another mode of transportation. Bikes could be obsolete by then.
