Looks like he wasn't kidding. Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen has removed the app from Apple's App Store and Google Play.

MacRumors first noted that while the removal is still rolling out, the app no longer appears in App Store search or in the Top Free Games listing. It's also missing from a "Flappy Bird" search in Google Play.

Nguyen was reportedly making $50,000 per day, but he cited discomfort with all the attention he had been getting.

And also hinted that he may feel some guilt over how obsessed people have become with his creation:

But could it be because Flappy Bird borrows quite a lot from the world of Super Mario? Is this to avoid Nintendo's IP lawyers?

You can still play the game, if you've downloaded it earlier. Though don't expect an updated version to come anytime soon. Or ever.
