Volvo Concept: What You Buy Online Could Be Delivered to Your Car Trunk [VIDEO]
2014.02.22
What if your packages were delivered to your car instead? That's what Volvo has got in mind. They announced its own plans to get you your goods in a timely, convenient manner, which involves handing your car keys over to strangers.
Volvo is planning a system that lets delivery personnel GPS track your vehicle and track you down. They will gain access to your car's trunk via a temporary electronic key.
The delivery folks would contact you via your smartphone when they want to make a delivery. After you approve, they get their temporary trunk key generated and you'll be notified when your trunk is opened and closed. When the delivery is completed, the digital key ceases to exist. It won't be able to start your engine.
The scheme is designed to be an expansion on Volvo's "Volvo On Call" app that lets drivers do things like heat their car or report it as stolen from their phones.
What do you think?
