Wi-Fi Antenna Gets Woven into Clothes. Would You Wear It?
2014.03.19
The future of wearable tech could actually be the threads of your clothes. This one here for example, features wireless connectivity. The textile waveguide antenna can handle 2.45 and 5.4 GHz dual-band Wi-Fi and is made from flexible textiles. The heart of the device is a cell inspired by metamaterials and it has an antenna built on a felt substrate.
The idea is that it could be used for military applications. After all, who wants to wear a wi-fi shirt when you've already got data on you. The idea would be to keep track of soldiers and allow for quick communication in the field.
Would you wear this if they ever find a reason for civilians to put it on? [Electronics Letters via Phys Org]
