TowerJazz and Gpixel have teamed up to develop the GMAX3005. You're looking at a high resolution 150 megapixel CMOS image sensor. That's huge! The goal is to use it for medical and industrial applications, which means, it won't be in any cameras anytime soon.

The chip measures 167.6mm x 30.1mm, which implies an absurdly wide aspect ratio; however, the release describes this image sensor as "full frame," which in consumer speak means 35mm. [Businesswire via Photography Blog via The Phoblographer]
