We don't have much use for cassette tapes anymore. But maybe we'll want this one. Sony has just unveiled a tape that can hold 148 GB per square inch. This means, this cassette could hold up to 186 TB of data.

Sony used a vacuum-forming technique called sputter deposition to create a layer of magnetic crystals by shooting argon ions at a polymer film substrate. This means three Blu-Rays can be fitted on one square inch of Sony's new cassette tape.

So how do we play it? For now, no release date or price. Even tech is cyclical? [ExtremeTech]
