Gilad Wolf is an Israeli inventor. He decided to reinvent the wheel. Literally. He did it because he wanted a way to comfortably get around in a conventional wheelchair.

Wolf's invention is called SoftWheel, and it is a more efficient and comfortable riding wheel. It features a rim that uses three shock absorbing compression cylinders which suspends the wheel's hub while evenly distributing mass along the chair.

This means more comfort and ease when descending stairs and overcoming bumps.

SoftWheel also has other applications too other than wheelchairs. They were also able to hook it up to a bike, which produced a smoother and faster ride. Check out the video above.

SoftWheel will go on sale at the end of this year for somewhere around $2,000. Comfort doesn't come cheap. [SoftWheel via Wired]
