Don't Set Your iPhone Back To 1970. It'll Wreck Your Phone!
2016.02.15
4chan trolls have been sharing an image encouraging people to set their phone clock back to January 1, 1970 to seek out an iOS easter egg. It claims to have a 'retro' Apple logo theme on your display. But what it actually does is more sinister than that.
The iPhone bug is completely unsafe. In fact, it'll render your phone useless.
Wired reports that the bug is a UNIX glitch in 64-bit versions of iOS and 1/1/1970 has an internal value of zero on a Unix system which means it will just transform your phone into an expensive piece of metal. You won't even be able to restore it from iTunes. You'll need to get Apple's genius bar to help you, or...get a new phone.
