Origins of first lamps used can be dated back to early 70,000 BC. They consisted of an oversimplified structure, like a shell or a rock holding particular material which were then burned with a flame. Wick could be used as well to prolong the flame. Until the end of 18th century, oil lamps were the most popular forms of illumination.
New energy sources were discovered with the passage of time. Novel forms of lamps were invented which had better functionality. Kerosene lamps were introduced in Germany during the early 19th century. It was a container of kerosene in which mantle or wick was dipped and then burned. The flame was protected from a draft using a globe or glass chimney in the container.
Moreover, in the end of 18th century, first commercial use of coal and gas was witnessed to lighten the house. Gas was transported through pipes which then lit up the lamps.
