These 3D Chimpanzee Skulls Are Actually Microscopic Bacteria Traps

That's one spooky looking skull. Created by a research team at the University of Texas, these "microscopic houses" are designed for trapping nasty bacteria that makes you sick. The researchers describe them as more like "tiny zoos for the study of infections."
The skulls were the result of firing lasers that use a "chip adapted from a digital movie projector" at a substrate of gelatin to carve out these three-dimensional shapes,
Once the bacteria get trapped in these microscopic jail cells, it makes it easier for researchers to run tests on their capacity to cause infections and their reactions to antibiotics. Read the full post over at Phys.Org
