Qualcomm Introduces 64-Bit Snapdragon Chip for Low-End Phones
2013.12.10
When Apple announced its new A7 processor would be 64-bit, they started a new wave. Competitors are trying to catch up, and now Qualcomm is making its move with the new Snapdragon 410 - the first 64-bit chip in the line. But the catch here is that it's for low and mid-range phones.
You gadget geeks might not be the target market for the kind of $150 phones the Snapdragon 410 is aimed at, but this chip will bring some high-end features to the lower end: like LTE and better graphics. However, there hasn't been any compelling argument for the 64-bit part.
So although cheap phones aren't going to become amazing anytime soon, it's great to see them improve.
