Ronaldo had apparently questioned Alonso's loyalty to the German athletic apparel by asking, “how can you compare adidas to Nike?” Alonso then proceeded to respond with a witty jab, “adidas is history. Nike are basketball shoes.”

Ronaldo proceeds to boast, “these boots are top… for a top player”, to which Alonso shoots him down with “they are plastic. Madrid is adidas. adidas is 70 years in football, not like Nike who have been around 3 days.” Catty much?
