10 Common Reactions Malaysians Have When a New Franchise Opens Up
1. We get absolutely obsessed with it.
We don't even know why. Is this herd mentality? If everyone is going, and everyone is talking about it, it must be good. Or at least, it's gotta be something you have to try.
2. We are burning with curiosity to try it.
You set a date to go. But you don't want to go alone. You spread your curiosity to others. Do ice cream sandwiches really taste great? Does coffee in an indie coffee shop smell better? You don't know. But you definitely want to find out.
3. We make impromptu decisions to brave the line.
You roll up to the front of the place. And you see a massive line. There are just way too many humans. You may be put off at first, but there's a high chance you'll return with enough bravery to stand in line. You just have to get it out of your system.
4. We abandon the other franchise we were just at.
Poor old once-famous franchise. We were obsessed with it, until something new came about. This is the perfect time for latecomers to try the now-old trends out. They become our backup plans if a new place is way too crowded. We still burn with curiosity for the new.
5. We wonder how much money they are raking in.
We mentally calculate in our heads by looking at the amount of people at the line and multiply the price of a drink, or item on the menu. We wet our metaphorical pants with what-if plans to open up a franchise.
6. We complain about the crowd to everyone but we love it.
You have every right to complain about the crowd. Because everyone is doing the same. It's like a badge of honor saying you've been there. You'll be back too.
7. We have it at least 3 times a week.
Our obsession takes us on another level. It is so good, we have to have it. 3 times a week, please! And that's how we get bored of something new.
8. We rationalize - if there's a line, it MUST be good.

Why else would there be a line, right? How can people like this stuff if it isn't good? At least, that's what you tell yourself while waiting 30 minutes in line. It's okay. It'll be worth it...
9. We flock to it until we get sick of it.
Having too much of anything is bound to be boring. We need variety! We need something new! After 28 cups of Bubble Tea in 2 months, it would be best to reevaluate your life too.
10. A new franchise just opened up. Repeat step 1.
Oh. My. God.
