Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" Win Was Used to Raise Awareness About Homeless Teens
2014.08.25
Miley Cyrus won the VMA for Video of the Year at the 2014 VMAs. But instead of going up to accept the award, someone else did. She's launching a campaign to help homeless kids and runaways.
Her friend, Jesse, accepted the award on her behalf. He said, and I’m accepting this award on behalf of the 1.6 million runaways and homeless youth who are starving lost and scared right now. I know this because I am one of these people.”
“I have survived in shelters all over this city,” he said. “I’ve cleaned your hotel rooms, I’ve been an extra in your movies. I’ve been an extra in your life. Though may have been invisible to you on the streets I have a lot of the same dreams that brought many of you here tonight.”
