Another Marlboro Man Actor Dies of Lung Disease
2014.01.28
Another reason to quit smoking. There's enough evidence that smoking kills already. Now, Eric Lawson, who played the Marlboro Man in print advertisements from 1978 to 1981 has died of lung disease at the age of 72.
Lawson died at his San Luis Obispo, Calif., home on Jan. 10 from respiratory failure caused by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, his wife, Susan Lawson.
He is the third former Marlboro Man actor to die of a smoking-related illness. David Millar died of emphysema in 1987, and David McLean died of lung cancer in 1995.
Lawson reportedly started smoking at age 14, and continued until he was diagnosed with the disease that took his life.
Before his diagnosis, however, Lawson appeared in an anti-smoking ad and an Entertainment Tonight piece on smoking's harmful effects, according to his wife.
Smoking kills, folks. Kick the habit today. There is no good time to quit.
