New Selfie Study Reveals A Lot About Cultural Stereotypes
2014.02.20
This new study led by media theorists at the City University of New York involved analyzing 3200 Instagram photos taken from five cities across the world over nine days during December 2013.
Women scored the highest number of self-portraits in all five cities: 82 per cent in Moscow, 65 per cent in Sao Paulo and 62 per cent in New York. These women also had a tendency to tilt their heads 150 percent more than men. Posers in Bangkok smiled the most in selfies, (06.8 average smile score) followed up by Sao Paulo (0.64). Moscow scored the least with only 0.53 on the smile score scale.
