Think your $3,000 suit is expensive? Think again. There are far more expensive ones that you and I will probably never be able to afford. But even if we could, you should know that it isn't all about the price tag. Here are 10 of the most expensive suits money can buy. And it is just ridiculous.
Ermenegildo Zegna is one of the top-tier Italian fashion houses. they have more than 100 years of experience. They manufacture suits for labels such as Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Tom Ford and more and produce over 2.3 million meters of fabric per year. This $22k suit was created by the fourth generation of the Zegna family.
The World Wood Record Challenge is owned by Luigi and Sergio Loro Piana. They call for designers to create and tailor their best suits for men every year and through a voting selection, the best is chosen and the design is cut into 50 suits sold under the Loro Piana brand. The 2012 winner came from Susanna Triplett whose suit was made of wool and wa sjust 11.1 microns in diameter.
Italian luxury clothier Brioni introduced their most expensive line of suits ever. It is made from Vanquish II fabric, which is produced by UK based Dormeuil. It blends the rarest fibers in the world from qiviuk, pashmina, and vicuna. They make just 100 of these handmade suits a year and the suit’s stitching is made of white gold. They have been dressing James Bond since 1995.
These suits come in a price tag near $50k, and Desmond Merrion says “I will personally place every single stitch in your suit by hand; a machine will never touch the garment at any stage. This hand making is the absolute pinnacle in tailoring. Your suit will take me so long to make, it cannot be measured in man hours. It will take MONTHS of my time to make the perfectly crafted suit. The finished suit will appear as if it has not been hand crafted, but sculpted around your torso.”
Kiton is one of Italy's top designer brand for men's suits. They make 22,000 suits per year and each, takes up to 25 hours to stitch. 45 tailors are working on each individual piece. Made from merino sheep wool, its name also reveals just how long it takes to make one suit - 50 hours.
