Christian v. Politics
2019.11.18
Since the Colonial era, religions and religious beliefs have played an important role in the foundation of the United States. Religious liberty was the key element in our founding fathers’ vision of America. No wonder the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution reads: “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech...” Opinion- Christian v. Politics
Although the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment prohibits government (or states) from encouraging or promoting ("establishing") religion in any way, it does not prohibit religion from anyone who is in government. In other words, it does not mean someone who belongs to traditional, organized religions, such as Christianity cannot be in government.
1. Article VI of the Constitution. Article VI concludes with these words: “No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.”
Christian beliefs in public view or debate
Freedom Forum Institute elaborates on the meaning of “free exercise” of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. “Free exercise is the freedom of every citizen to reach, hold, practice and change beliefs according to the dictates of conscience.” U.S. Attorney Deborah R. Gilg of District of Nebraska also elaborates on this issue in an article titled “Know Your Right.”
“but the founding fathers understood that a free government must guarantee individuals the right to express personal opinions. Free speech is believed to provide the following benefits— Brings about peaceful social change by providing the ability to influence public opinion through persuasion rather than violence...”
Christianity does not bring or promote violence. The word “Christian” is used three times in the New Testament (Acts 11:26; 26:28; 1 Peter 4:16). The word “Christian” means, “belonging to the party of Christ” or a “follower of Christ.” Christianity teaches the love, mercy, and passion of God. 1 Peter 4:8 reads, “Above all, love each other deeply because love covers over a multitude of sins.” Jeremiah 31:3 reads, The LORD appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.
Christian and Public Policy
When it comes to issues such as economic let us think about the lower class. Let us think about those who are wondering when their next meal will come tonight or this week. Let us think about those who must work two-three jobs to just survive. For you do not know even Jesus himself was part of the lower class, he fought and came for the lower class.
If we say we hold traditional values (Christian foundation) then let us truly fight for what Christ truly believes in. When it comes to issues such as Veteran let us give God thanks for them. Let us fully fund them. When it comes to Global Threats, let us fight against Trafficking and Modern Slavery. When it comes to Constitutional issue let us Defend Marriage against an Activist Judiciary (Support Biblical Values), Fight for the First Amendment (Religious Liberty), Fight for the First Amendment (Constitutionally Protected Speech), Fight for the Fourth Amendment (Liberty and Privacy), Fight for the Fifth Amendment (Support Unborn Child Right to Life), Fight for the Fifth Amendment (Protecting Private Property).
Lastly, when it comes to issues such as immigration (foreigners) let us have closed borders (but do them no harm). Do not treat them like animals and put them on cages. Do not starve them to death nor allow any harm to happen to them. For anyone who supports such a policy that harms them shall be held accountable to whatever harm or pain they suffered. 1 John 1:6, “If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.”
How can we know Christ when we follow such a cruel policy? For even if Christ would too appeared face to face to us or was among those foreigners, we would not recognize him (because we are not walking in the light and have followed the darkness). Therefore, if we say we know Christ let us show love to one another. For the world does not know him, may they know him through you. 1 John 3:1, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” Let us tell and fight for the truth. Mark 8:36, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
