Why Read the Bible this Quarantine
2020.08.26
Shelter in place has been going on for some time now and it’s already past half the year. There might have been plenty of things that we’ve tried to do to pass time, such as picking up a new hobby, learning a new instrument, getting into pencil drawing, and running errands we’ve never had the time for before.
But there’s only so much we can do until we reach a plateau again and fail miserably in making the mandated quarantine into something fun and exciting. Having a lot of time on our hands doesn’t have to be burdensome or result in lethargy. Setting a goal in something meaningful can have a very positive impact on ourselves and those around us. In times of trouble, many people choose to turn to religion or spirituality to be able to uplift themselves and focus on something greater than themselves.
This quarantine is the perfect time to journey into those curious endeavors again. The Bible is one book that talks about deep and profound things regarding life, faith, God, and a hope that is greater than ourselves. Why invest time in learning about the Bible and not other scriptures this quarantine? Well the Bible is the best-selling book of all time. It’s been purchased so many times and so easily accessible to the point where you are able to find a Bible in your local hotel. Many people also hand them out for free in public. People post bible quotes all the time. So what makes the Bible so special?
Aside from the fact that this scripture talks about God and why we should have faith in this God, the Bible also talks about death and why the world is in its current state. Many people for instance see the story of Adam and Eve as fictional or folklore-like, but the Bible mentions the creation story not as a fairy tale in the beginning of the Bible. The book of Revelation mentions this story again and figures from the time of Genesis appear again, further highlighting God’s faithfulness and purpose of every word that is spoken. The language that the Bible uses is also very beautiful and the way it describes nature and God’s will is also very poetic. Many scholars even dive into the Bible to understand why the language used is so beautiful. The Bible contains 6,000 years of history with writers that go back as far as 1,000 years. Yet what is even more fascinating is how consistent the words written in the Bible are.
You’ll be amazed at what you’ll be able to gain from this ancient book, and many resources can be discovered despite the difficult circumstances currently going on in the world such as Bible Study for All. So if you’ve been unsure whether or not you should start on this spiritual journey, give it a go!
