How To Look Good in Photos: Try Squinching [VIDEO]
2013.11.22
Want to look better in pictures? Then try this tip from professional portrait photographer Peter Hurley: Squinch.
What is squinching in the first place? We didn't know too, so we had to look up its meaning. According to Merriam Webster:
SQUINCH
transitive verb 1: to screw up (the eyes or face); squint 2: to make more compact.
How is that supposed to make you look better in pictures? He used it to describe the "action of squinting your eyes in such a way as to portray confidence and self-assurance as opposed to the fear and uncertainty that you project when you stare wide-eyed at the camera." transitive verb 1: to screw up (the eyes or face); squint 2: to make more compact.
Admitted, it'll take some practice to get it right, since you'll squint if you get squinching wrong. The trick: lift and tighten your lower eyelids and let the top ones come down just a fraction.
